Purpose of the Role

Takes responsibility for supervision of project teams responsible for managing the various projects from Initiation through all the phases up to project closure, and consolidating and reporting on key KPIs, ECOHS schedule and cost performance for the programme. The Senior Project Management Office Manager takes accountability for the management of a programme of 100 or more small and medium operational projects at a mining operation of a total value of  up to US$ 150 million per annum and US$ 500million across a 5 year planning and execution cycle. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Sets up the project office structures, processes and supporting control systems to ensure capital is managed effectively and to align and leverage opportunities between the projects that make up the programme.
  • Manages Category 1 & 2 portfolio work to optimise portfolio approved cash flow to achieve medium to long term organisational objectives.
  • Develops short to long term portfolio forecast and release portfolio projects according to prioritisation at appropriate board approval stages in line with relevant portfolio management principles and company policies
  • Analyses projects status, compiles portfolio report and ensures corrective action is implemented and applies continuous business process improvement of portfolio and project processes to improve project execution maturity.
  • Tracks the realisation of project benefits, assesses impact on portfolio risks and opportunities and approves project capital changes within his/her delegated authority.

  • Identifies, coordinates and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/requirements
  • Maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives
  • Analyses the functional area's financial needs to develop a budget and ensures sufficient financial resources to meet business needs
  • Recommends and incorporates technical investigation initiatives into budgets
  • Responsible for, approves and monitors the utilisation of allocated funds to enable the attainment of functional objectives
  • Interprets operational requirements and integrates with discipline base financial needs to ensure availability of financial resources to meet business objectives
  • Ensures that codes of practices, standard operating procedures, legal and statutory requirements are adhered to in area of responsibility
  • Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance
  • Oversees implementation of the departmental talent management initiatives, ensuring the effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, localisation, training and development plans; recruiting and placing engineers
  • Coordinates and monitors the implementation of safety, health and environmental programs in area of responsibility taking cognizance of all legal requirements

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Relevant in Project Management Qualification

Experience

10 Post Qualification Experience years of experience in the following:
•    Construction / Engineering Project Management environment
•    Construction management experience
•    General management experience
•    Contractor Management
•    Mining and related operations environment
